A Message from President David Evans
Welcome to AUBG’s campus-planning webpage! This page provides updates on our planning process and gives us a place to share visuals, schedules, and feedback opportunities for all members of the AUBG Community. As we consider a robust future of enrollment growth and an increasing impact on Bulgaria, our region, and the world, we are seeking the best possible way to improve our home in Blagoevgrad to enhance our educational opportunities and provide a comfortable and effective place for our students to learn and grow.
We have partnered with Credo Higher Education Consulting to assist us in this critical planning process. The Credo team visited campus April 24-26, 2023, to learn about our priorities, understand our current spaces and their uses, and gather feedback from faculty, staff, and students about what works and what doesn’t on our current Skaptopara campus and the Main Building downtown. They held three Town Hall meetings for faculty and staff, in which a total of more than 50 community members provided input, as well as two sessions with students, without any other AUBGers present, to gather their candid insights.
Credo’s next step is to analyze their findings, as well as the data we have provided them on our current space use, budgets, and pressure points on campus. Over the next several months, we will be in continuous contact with them as they translate this analysis into potential concepts for future campus changes. In turn, we will discuss these concepts internally and determine which best suits our mission and future needs.
Throughout this process, we will provide opportunities for feedback at key points. This webpage includes a comment form, and we welcome questions and concerns at any time. The Credo team will be in contact with many members of the community to discuss options and changes, but the next key point for broad-based input will be in the fall, when Credo will be back with a model of proposed concept and will again hold public meetings to gain insight into our needs and hopes, and to further refine the concept model.
We hope to present a completed campus master plan, including projected timelines, budgets, funding strategies, fundraising visuals, and other materials to the AUBG Board of Trustees at its Fall, 2023 meeting for approval.
Thank you for being a part of planning the next stage in the life of this wonderful institution.
Best wishes, David R. Evans, Ph.D., President
