A Halloween Party With a Twist Supports Breast Cancer Awareness

Three years ago, a spark ignited in the minds of the Blagoevgrad Griffins, AUBG’s American Football team, and StartUP Blagoevgrad. Kris Petrov, the president of the Blagoevgrad Griffins and treasurer of StartUP Blagoevgrad, envisioned a party unlike any other. He saw an opportunity to combine the passions of the two clubs – American football, which supports Breast Cancer Awareness in October, and creating a fun, engaging experience for students.

This year, for the third time, the AUBG Sports hall was packed with people celebrating Halloween in the American tradition. And as the tradition follows, the party kept its twist – to raise awareness and funds for Breast Cancer Awareness. This year, they surpassed their expectations, doubling their previous year’s contribution to 10 929! Every cent went directly to the CancerCare foundation.

“Thank you to both of my amazing families – StartUP and Griffins, we proved once again that together we can make everything possible, and have fun while doing so,” said Asen Dzhalev, StartUP Blagoevgrad President.

Technology played its part too. StartUP’s IT department developed a flawless admission system, ensuring a smooth and spooky experience for over 700 registered donors (over 600 of whom attended the event).

“This event holds a special place in the hearts of our organizations,” said Benjamin Whyman, President of the Blagoevgrad Griffins. “I am so thankful for the work of every member of my Griffins team, and our StartUP partners. Together we made an amazing event, in our collective support for a very important cause.”

“Midterm or Monsters” wasn’t just a party, it was a testament to the power of student initiative, collaboration, and a little bit of Halloween spirit. It was a reminder that even the most familiar events can be infused with a twist, a twist that brings people together, raises awareness, and ultimately, makes a difference. To add to the festive spirit, a costume competition was held, encouraging attendees to showcase their creativity and spooky style.

“It’s inspiring to witness the dedication and creativity of our students as they turn a Halloween party into a powerful platform for social change,” said Dean of Students, Sabina Wien.

“Their initiative to raise funds for Breast Cancer Awareness exemplifies the true spirit of civic engagement. Such student-led endeavors enrich our campus community and make a tangible impact on the world.”

At the party, the guests had the ability to enjoy great tunes from DJ Ivoratty, who supported the event for the third time in a row, being an essential part of creating the desired spooky atmosphere. Guests weren’t just dancing, they were actively participating in carnival games, collecting points to win prizes generously donated by numerous sponsors.
