Two Scholarships Available Thanks to AUBG & Friends Fundraising Golf Tournament 2022

AUBG faculty, staff, alumni, and donors took part in the event to raise funds for AUBG scholarships that are designed for students with high academic performance and extracurricular interests in sports. On Sept. 24, golf enthusiasts and their supporters from the AUBG circles and beyond gathered for the sixth annual AUBG & Friends Fundraising Golf Tournament.

This year’s tournament fundraising efforts resulted in two $1,500 scholarships for AUBG students who perform well in their studies and have extracurricular interests in sports.

During the opening ceremony, AUBG President Dr. David Evans shared a few insights about the vibrant student life on campus and expressed his gratitude for the magnanimous support of all AUBG community members and their friends.

While some mark the event date in their calendars with a determination to play and compete, others do their best to come and support their family members and friends. Thus, Mladen Pecakovski (‘21) and Alexandra Khakimova (‘21) shared how coming to the annual golf tournament became a tradition for them, as their friend Vladi Petrunov, a fourth-year student at AUBG, has been taking part in the competition for four consecutive years now.

“Right now, he is third in the division B,” Mladen said. “Last year, he missed out on the second spot by, like, one hit, maybe. But the first time he played he got the first place. So, we came to support him.”

“This tournament became a tradition for us: to come every year, to support our friend, to support AUBG, and to have fun,” Alexandra said.

According to the Stableford format, the players were divided into two divisions – A and B. The first place in division A was awarded to Petar Beleliev while the gold in division B went to Stefan Mitev.

Having been a part of a Bulgarian National Golf Team for three years, Solomon Kenneti, a first-year student at AUBG, shared his excitement about the opportunity for further development in the sport. “I am going to try my best and use the facilities provided by AUBG – the golf simulator and the gym – and of course, the Golf Club that provides an opportunity for all AUBG students to play for free at Pirin Golf.”
