Meet the Heart Behind the AUBG Career Center

One of the primary goals of a university is to equip students with the skills, knowledge, and aspirations needed to excel in their future careers.

At AUBG, two dedicated staff members have taken this mission to heart. Meet Rumyana Hristova, Senior Coordinator, and Nadezhda Radkova, Coordinator, who lead the Career Center with passion and purpose, helping illuminate students’ paths to a brighter future.

Operating since 1994 and run by this small but mighty duo, the Career Center is committed to curating an exceptional advising experience. Their goal is to help students discover their unique strengths and find their place in today’s competitive job market.

Mentorship – seeing the unseen

For Rumyana and Nadezhda, this work goes far beyond job duties. They are passionate about seeing AUBG students and alumni advancing in their academic and professional pursuits. The true power of what these two women do is in their ability to mentor students and alumni.

“We help students recognize the talents, knowledge, and skills they might have taken for granted, and even forget to mention in their CVs or Cover Letters,” Rumyana explained.

“Often, they need someone like us to help them identify those talents,” she added. Through their quiet encouragement, the Career Center team helps students reflect on their strengths and take ownership of their potential.

How the Career Center guides students

The Career Center is very student-oriented in that it offers personalized mentoring consultations tailored to each student’s goals and needs.

“We consult and help students in two different pillars: employment and graduate school advising,” said Rumyana.

Career support and applications crafting

Like other university career services, the Center supports students in carving their professional paths. This includes one-on-one consultations to identify interests and career goals, practical workshops on job-seeking strategies, CV and cover letter writing, and interview preparation.

“We had an interview prep session with Professor Elena Radeva in April… but it goes beyond that. Interview skills are practiced in nearly every career or grad school consultation we offer,” said Rumyana.

Connecting students with companies

A key role of the Career Center is to bridge the gap between students and employers. From organizing on-campus company presentations to hosting the annual Job & Internships Fair, which attracted more than 40 companies in 2025, they ensure students have opportunities to network and explore potential careers.

Rumyana and Nadezhda also support students before and after such events. For example, before the Job Fair in 2025, they hosted a LinkedIn workshop in collaboration with MarketStar and published an article with tips on how to make the most of the event. They’re also active on social media, sharing advice and updates.

Curated career resources

“Networking is very important, and every channel that helps us connect students with the labor market is valuable,” said Nadezhda.

She curates a weekly careers newsletter featuring opportunities from partner companies. “We also send out a weekly alumni newsletter with a variety of job listings,” she added.

These newsletters also include up-to-date information about graduate and postgraduate programs, funding opportunities, and job and internship offers.

Why they do what they do

So, what drives Rumyana and Nadezhda to keep showing up for students and then relishing their successes?

“For me, it’s about making an impact,” said Nadezhda. “I know how important it is for a person to find the right place – not just a job, but a way to express themselves. In order to serve society in a way that also fulfills you, I believe students need this support. And I’m happy to be part of that.”

Rumyana added, “I’ve been here for 18 years, and I truly enjoy working with young people, helping them take their first steps through any guidance and counseling they need. I find personal fulfillment in supporting them in every way we can.”

Staying at the forefront of innovation

To keep up with an evolving job market, the Career Center continuously stays updated on latest trends and best practices.

“That’s why we regularly attend career events and professional training for career counselors,” Rumyana said.

Their commitment ensures that AUBG students and alumni are well-prepared and well-positioned for success in today’s competitive global landscape.
