A journey in literature continues for Maria Terzieva (‘24). The alumna will go on to pursue a master’s degree in Anglophone Literatures and Cultures at the University of Vienna with a 10,000 BGN grant from the 2025 Tuk-Tam Scholarship fund.
Maria graduated AUBG with a double major in Political Science and Literature. She won outstanding achievement for the latter at the 2024 Honors Convocation.
“I have always been a voracious reader and studying literature was one of the most natural decisions I have ever made,” Maria said. “At AUBG, I was inspired by my literature professors, especially by professor Terziev and professor Homer, and now I want to pursue an academic career to explore the power of stories – personal, sociological, and political.”
Maria was one of 21 recipients awarded at the Sofia University Botanical Garden during Tuk-Tam’s annual gala evening. This year’s fund, totaling a record 300,000 BGN, also supports young people’s studies in the fields of medicine, sustainability, creativity and more.
Tuk-Tam’s scholarship fund started in 2016 with just 3,000 BGN. Since then it has awarded around 1,000,000 BGN in scholarships for 93 Bulgarians to continue their education abroad and then return home to contribute to the local development. Beyond that, the organization has built a community throughout the country to support young people’s career development.
