On October 20, 2024, bTV journalist Mitko Marinov led a second workshop titled “Artificial Intelligence in Journalism” for a group of local journalists participating in the U.S. Embassy-funded English for Journalists grant. This program, hosted by the English Language Institute (ELI) and the Center for Information, Democracy and Citizenship (CIDC) at the American University in Bulgaria (AUBG), is designed to strengthen professional skills and promote English language proficiency for journalists from Blagoevgrad and the surrounding region.
Marinov captivated attendees with an interactive overview of the history and future applications of artificial intelligence, alongside an introduction to tools that journalists can leverage to enhance their productivity and reporting effectiveness. Known for his in-depth coverage and commitment to raising awareness on technology’s role in media, Marinov connected with participants by sharing relevant, hands-on techniques that they could implement immediately in their work. As a journalist active in the field, he understood the unique challenges and needs of local reporters, which helped create an engaging and highly relevant session.
Participants shared their positive feedback on the workshop, noting the effectiveness of the interactive activities and the practical value of the tools presented. One journalist commented, “Both workshop modules were fantastic. The AI game was fun and delivered new insights in a refreshing way. The practical tools introduced in the second part will be genuinely useful in my work.”
