Journalists’ Workshop with Factcheck.bg on Combating Disinformation

Local journalists received a boost in their fight against disinformation thanks to a recent workshop led by Dafina Kandova, part of Factcheck.bg. This workshop complemented the ongoing English for Journalists program, sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Sofia.

Kandova’s presentation tackled critical topics that equip journalists to navigate today’s challenging media landscape, filled with disinformation. Key areas of the factcheck.bg workshop covered included:

  • Preparing for Pre-Election Disinformation: Journalists learned strategies to anticipate and counter the surge of misleading information that often accompanies elections.
  • Identifying Manipulated Images and Videos: Kandova equipped participants with techniques to spot doctored photos and videos, a common tactic used to spread disinformation.
  • Tracking Disinformation on Social Media: The workshop explored methods for effectively monitoring social media platforms, where much of today’s disinformation originates.

Throughout the session, Kandova underscored the prevalence of disinformation and its detrimental impact on informational integrity. She equipped journalists with valuable tools and techniques to detect misleading, malicious, or fake content, ultimately ensuring their reporting remains accurate and reliable.

This workshop empowers local journalists to serve as guardians of truth in their communities. By honing their skills in identifying and dismantling disinformation, they can contribute to a more informed and empowered citizenry.
