Are you passionate about design, branding, or simply love your university town? Here’s your chance to leave a lasting mark on Blagoevgrad.
The Municipality of Blagoevgrad, in partnership with the American University in Bulgaria and Southwestern University “Neofit Rilski”, is launching a competition for a Visual Identity Concept on the theme “Blagoevgrad – University Center”.
The goal? To create a modern, recognizable, and impactful visual identity that promotes Blagoevgrad as a vibrant hub for students and young professionals.
Purpose of the competition
To popularize and establish Blagoevgrad as a prestigious university center and an attractive place for students and young professionals. To promote the opportunities for: active living, and training; to improve qualifications, scientific activity and realization that the regional center provides as a city with unique history and nature, rich cultural and sports life, as a home to leading universities, and as a center of active academic and cultural life.
With this competition, we are looking for a creative and impactful visual identity that will help promote Blagoevgrad as a prestigious university center and a preferred destination for students and young professionals.
Expected outcomes
- A creative and impactful visual identity concept that will be applicable in the production of printed and digital materials.
- An original, modern and easily recognizable visual identity that conveys the spirit of the city as a youthful, dynamic and academic center .
- The visual identity must contain the logos of the three institutions – Blagoevgrad Municipality, Southwestern University “Neofit Rilski” and American University in Bulgaria.

- Brief presentation of the candidate
- Contact details
Envelope 2:
- A description of the concept (up to 1 page), containing a justification for the chosen visual identity;
- Slogan – in Bulgarian and English;
- Graphic concept – color palette, images, font/fonts;
- Visions of billboards, posters, social media posts and other digital materials
Evaluation criteria
- Originality and creativity – an innovative approach and a memorable vision
- Clear message – ability to communicate the role of Blagoevgrad as a university center
- Versatility – adaptability to different communication channels
Conditions for participation
- The competition is open to students studying in Blagoevgrad.
- Participants can take part individually or in a team.
- Each participant/team can submit only one proposal.
Technical requirements
Projects must be submitted in the following formats: .eps, .cdr, .jpg and .pdf .
N.B. Projects that do not meet the technical requirements or are not accompanied by a brief description of the concept will not be considered.
Deadline and submission
The proposal submission will be open on April 7, the final deadline for submission is May 18, 2025. You can send your proposal to [email protected].
Awards
- First place – 800 BGN and implementation of the presented projects
- Second place – 400 BGN,
- Third place – 300 BGN.
The projects will be evaluated by an expert jury of representatives of the Municipality of Blagoevgrad, AUBG, and Southwestern University “Neofit Rilski”.
The winners will be announced on the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture and the Blagoevgrad Celebration Day – May 24.
All submitted projects remain the property of the municipality of Blagoevgrad.
