AUBG Golf Tournament 2021 Raises Funds for Student Scholarships and a Local Hospital

A beautiful September day. Around 50 golf enthusiasts. 14 sponsors. Two causes. The 5th AUBG & Friends Fundraising Golf Tournament, which took place on Saturday, Sept. 25 at the Pirin Golf and Country Club, has turned into an annual tradition that helps AUBG deliver on its mission.  This year, the initiative collected funds for both scholarship donations and the hospital in Razlog.

“The event is one of our public and more fun ways to support scholarships,” Evans said. “A lot of our students, both from Bulgaria and the surrounding countries, come from relatively modest economic backgrounds. We rely very much on the kindness of our supporters to help them stay enrolled during the very difficult challenges of the COVID pandemic.”

In his opening speech, Evans expressed special gratitude to all of the sponsors who made the event possible: RPHI; Omnio Ltd; Intime/UPS and HTA.BG; Glarus Beer; Logodaj Winery; Hedonist Wines; Pepsi; Lilov Dent; Chipita; MeatMe Bars; Nescafe Dolce Gusto; H2O Water; Hotel InterContinental Sofia and Pirin Golf Country Club.

The big number of sponsors this year allowed the organization team to collaborate with the local healthcare community and introduce a second charity cause this year in addition to the traditional scholarship donations.

“The whole AUBG team wholeheartedly embraced the idea of including another cause,” said healthcare entrepreneur and co-organizer of the event, Dr. Slaveyko Djambazov (EMBA ’10). The tournament raised $3500 USD for the hospital in Razlog which will be used for the purchase of a new echograph.

United by the noble cause, participants from both the public and the private sector spent a blissful day of golfing in the serene environment of Pirin Golf. An honorable guest at the event was the Ambassador of Egypt, H.E. Mr. Khaled Emara. The players were divided into two divisions according to the widespread Stableford format. Georgi Yotsev secured the first place in Division 1, while Stefan Pavlov took the gold in Division 2.

As the last sunrays fell on the green fields of the golf course, all participants gathered to celebrate the success of the tournament with an awarding ceremony and a gala cocktail.
