My AUBG Song: Class of ‘25 Share the Soundtrack of Their Journey

Do you have a soundtrack that defines your life? For these AUBG senior students, special songs have sealed a moment in time. Every time they hear them, they’re taken back to heartfelt late-night talks, unforgettable firsts, and the magical start of true friendships.

As we end the 2025 academic year, we asked several graduating seniors to compile the playlist of their AUBG journey – the nostalgic, melancholic, happy, and exhilarating sounds of AUBG. Let’s hear it!

Dua Zhjeqi, Valle Kosovare

The song that will always remind me of an amazing AUBG moment is the Albanian song “Valle Kosovare”. It will always take me back to that one night during Orientation Week, because I didn’t expect it to be played. As soon as it came on, everyone screamed with excitement, stood up in a big circle, and started dancing and singing. It didn’t matter if you were Albanian or not. Everyone was there for the vibes and a good time, and that’s what mattered the most in that moment.

Dimitar Slavov, The Less I Know the Better

A song that takes me back to a special moment is “The Less I Know the Better” by Tame Impala. The special moment? A group activity in my first weeks on campus that resulted in a great friendship. I’d heard the song before, but I couldn’t remember its name, so I asked a girl who was there. We started talking, then accidentally took a few courses together, and we became good friends. For me, that’s the essence of AUBG – simple moments turned into memories, made with great people you can still call years later.

Viktoria Bozhinova, Inna Di Red

“Inna Di Red” by Stephen Marley is that one song that had my back through everything at AUBG. When things got tough—deadlines, stress, life stuff—it was the track I’d throw on to reset. It gave me peace when I needed it most and reminded me to keep going. That song holds so many late-night memories, and even now, hearing it takes me right back to those quiet moments of clarity on campus. Definitely the soundtrack of my AUBG experience.

Maha Afif, I’ll Be There for You

Whenever I hear “I’ll Be There for You,” I think of MentiFY. That song, its warmth, its promise, feels like us. We showed up for each other, not because we had to, but because we cared. We tried to be the steady presence first-year students needed. And in doing that, we became that for each other too. MentiFY wasn’t just a program; it was a quiet kind of love, a team that felt like home. Hearing that song now, it’s not just nostalgia. It’s family. It’s us.

Nikolay Pavlov, Stereo Love

My special song is not about being at AUBG, but getting to AUBG. It was an extremely hot summer day, with the sun blazing. As I approached the university’s campus for the first time, “Stereo Love” was playing on the radio. The entire moment felt so surreal to me. Strangely enough, later that evening, as I was unpacked and a thunderstorm was brewing outside, I plugged in my headphones, and the exact same song came on as I shuffled my playlist.

Iren Dimitrova, Bad Habits

Four years later, I still vividly remember that one unforgettable karaoke night during Orientation Week. We were singing “Bad Habits” by Ed Sheeran (one of the biggest hits of the year) as the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in stunning shades of pink. I remember standing on the lawn with 300 people I had only met two days before, all of us jumping, laughing, and shouting the lyrics at the top of our lungs. In that moment, time stood still.

I remember thinking, “This is it”. This is happiness in its purest form – a fleeting, magical point in time where everything aligned. Every decision I’ve ever made had led me here, to that exact sunset, that exact song, that exact feeling of being entirely, unapologetically alive. I knew then that the next four years would pass in a blink of an eye (and they did), but no matter how fast life moved, this memory would remain frozen and untouchable.

Even now, whenever I hear that song, I’m transported back to that night, to that overwhelming feeling of weightlessness, freedom, and unfiltered joy. It’s a reminder of how a single moment can shape a lifetime of gratitude. And that’s what I am – grateful to AUBG for providing me with four years filled with unforgettable experiences and moments of true happiness. Thank you for making my AUBG Way an unforgettable chapter in my life!

Lilia Petrova, Omigod You Guys

“Omigod You Guys” from Legally Blonde: The Musical instantly takes me back to my second year with the Broadway Performance Club, when we brought that show to life on stage. The energy, the playlist, the endless inside jokes- it was one of my favorite AUBG experiences. To this day, whenever that song plays, I can’t help but break into full-on singing and dancing mode (sorry to my friends who’ve endured this for years, haha). It brings back some of my happiest AUBG memories. Looking back, pulling off an entire musical felt impossible at first, but then I thought, in true Elle Woods fashion: what, like it’s hard? That musical will always have a special place in my heart.

Boryana Simeonova, Iris

The song that I will always cherish, and that will remind me of AUBG every time I hear it, is “Iris” by The Goo Goo Dolls. I remember during our Orientation Week, at the karaoke party, they played it, and we all leant on a friend’s shoulder, thinking it’s only the beginning. “You’re the closest to heaven that I’ll ever be; and I don’t wanna go home right now.”
