H.R.H. Princess Maria-Luisa of Bulgaria awarded AUBG alumnus Manol Peykov (’95, EMBA ’08) with HRH Princess Maria Luisa Distinguished AUBG Alumni Award For Civic Leadership and Change. He was awarded for his civic engagement and the impact he had in the positive change of society in the recent years. To recognize the embodiment of the AUBG mission to Lead by Example, Manol was also selected as the Keynote Commencement Speaker 2023.

An important part of the American University in Bulgaria’s mission is to not only prepare its students for successful careers but to also inspire them to bring positive change to society, whether on a local or global level. The Her Royal Highness Princess Maria Luisa Distinguished AUBG Alumni Award for Civic Leadership and Change aims to honor a graduate of the University who has taken this idea to heart and made an impact on the world around them.

Manol graduated from AUBG’s bachelor’s program in 1995 and the university’s EMBA in 2008. He is a Managing Partner at “Zhanet 45”, one of the leading Bulgarian publishing houses. Manol is also the co-creator and co-owner of the Pekarnata Sound recording Studios in Sofia, as well as the founder of Sofia Literary, the only agency in the country actively engaged in promoting and selling the rights of Bulgarian writers to foreign markets. Since 2009, he has organized more than 40 tours around Bulgaria with writers from all over the world.

After the start of the war in Ukraine, Manol started collecting donations for the Ukrainian cause through his personal Facebook profile. So far, he has collected over 1.5 million BGN, as well as another 1.5 million BGN for the victims of the strong earthquake in Turkey and Northern Syria. For his efforts, he was also named Man of the Year 2023 by Darik Radio.
