Halloween Party with a Cause: Breast Cancer Awareness

Blagoevgrad Griffins, StartUP Blagoevgrad, and the Investment Management Club hosted a Halloween party to bring the university community together for a noble cause and raise funds for people fighting breast cancer. The event collected over BGN 5500 in donations that will be directed towards CancerCare Foundation.

For the second year in a row, the organizers chose to donate funds to CancerCare, a non-governmental organization that supports breast cancer-affected people and their loved ones by providing women with access to regular screenings and other resources essential for early detection and prevention of oncological diseases.

Andrea Malinova, AUBG Senior and President of the American football team Griffins, said that the event welcomed more than 600 AUBG students and their friends who traveled from other towns to join the authentic Halloween party. She also explained what stands behind the idea of the event. “The National Football League (NFL) takes part in Breast Cancer Awareness Month every year. We, as a club that promotes American football, have been part of this initiative for years now.”

“However, in the past two years, we decided to mix the awareness campaign with something typical for the students – a party. And since there isn’t a more traditional American holiday than Halloween, we decided that this would be a great match.”

From October 17 to the day of the party, October 26, students, faculty, and staff of the university were invited to donate funds at a special booth. All proceeds from the party – donations, entries to classical Halloween games, and sales of the special merch line of T-shirts for the party – were directed to the CancerCare foundation.

Since the party was themed, members of all three clubs encouraged everyone to dress up in Halloween costumes and to participate in a costume contest. The audience chose three winners out of the 140 people who joined the contest. Moreover, Ivaylo Kostov, better known as DJ Ivoratty, supported once again the cause with all of his music and light equipment and turned the event into a real Halloween experience for the audience.

An impressive number of companies and organizations supported the cause thanks to the team efforts of the three clubs. The games that the organizers had prepared created so much hype that the prizes were gone after the first half hour of the event. It was all thanks to the over 40 supporters of the cause.

Great work, Student clubs! Congratulations to the leaders of the clubs this year – Andrea Malinova, Antonia Rusalieva, and Alexander Stamatov, and, most importantly, to their teams – all of the students who worked hard on making this happen.
