Christian Tenchev Builds up His Skills Through Tutoring

Christian Tenchev (Chris) is a third-year student, pursuing Business Administration and Psychology. He puts in practice the knowledge and skills he gains in the classroom during his co-curricular activities – being a Team Leader of the Peer Counselors and a Subject Tutor in Management and Information Systems for prof. Cleary.

Read below what are the reasons Chris is excited to be a tutor.

Why Tutoring?

  • Build the CV

My primary reason for choosing to be a tutor was the fact that I knew it looks good on the CV, as it is not only about having good grades but also for showing you have done things outside the mandatory curriculum. At the end of the day, having a good CV provides a lot of necessary support when looking for a job or if would like to increase potential future prospects.

  • Help out the professor

Quite frankly, I love prof. Cleary and the fact that he asked me to be a tutor was an amazing opportunity for me to be able to help someone who I wholeheartedly believe deserves as much praise and support as possible. He is a great person, nothing more to add.

  • Experience

Being a tutor also improves one’s social skills. Being able to explain a material in an easy to understand way and help someone truly understand a topic so that they can deal with it by themselves when the time comes is an invaluable skill, regardless of what you want to be. Being a tutor is a great starting point for this.

  • Bonuses

While the food voucher and the discounts in the bookstore are nowhere near my primary reasons for choosing to be a tutor, they are a nice encouragement to know we are being rewarded for our work. Of course, it is the work itself that is the primary reward but I will never say no to a pizza.

Advice for students

Trust me, pay attention in class. You will not remember everything, you will feel like you will never use some of the material and you will most definitely forget some things. However, if you pay attention to what the professor tells you, I can promise you – there will be things you remember for the rest of your lives.
