AUBG Secures a $1 Million Grant from the America for Bulgaria Foundation

The America for Bulgaria Foundation (ABF) has donated $1 Million to the American University in Bulgaria to support high-quality education and the university’s sustainable future. The grant aims to stimulate donations by AUBG alumni, friends, and supporters.

The funds from America for Bulgaria Foundation come in the form of the so-called “matching grant”, which means that ABF will double or triple their donations depending on the donor status.

Every time a recurring donor – a donor with one or more previous donations in the past three years – gives to AUBG, ABF will donate three times the amount within that 1 million grant. The foundation will also match all alumni donations 3:1, regardless of the alumni donor status. Additionally, the foundation will double the contributions from past donors who have not given in the last four fiscal years and will match donations from new benefactors, broadening our circle of support.
In addition to the matching grant, this year ABF will also donate $100,000 to AUBG’s Center for Information, Democracy, and Citizenship (CIDC). The CIDC center supports the development of democratic principles and the promotion of informed citizenship.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to the America for Bulgaria Foundation for their unwavering support and the transformative $1 million matching challenge grant,” said AUBG President Margee Ensign. “Their commitment to fostering high-quality education at AUBG is unparalleled, and the generosity demonstrated in the 2024 matching campaign, along with the $100,000 contribution to our Center for Information, Democracy, and Citizenship, reflects a shared vision for empowering our students and communities and advancing democratic principles. ABF’s dedication propels us forward in our mission, and we are honored to have such a steadfast partner in shaping the future of AUBG.”
