AUBG Funded Scholarships

These scholarships will be based on the academic merit of the applicant.

  • AUBG will award nine full-tuition scholarships to outstanding students for Fall 2026.

    Scholarships will be awarded to students with the highest academic standing based on their application and test results. The scholarship committee will also consider the students' extracurricular activities, leadership experience, motivation to impact their community, and more.

  • Up to 40% off tuition

    Based on the applicant's academic credentials. No additional documents necessary.

    Valid for eight semesters of study.

Donor Funded Scholarships

Donor Funded Scholarships are scholarship opportunities made possible by generous individuals, organizations, or foundations. These scholarships often have specific criteria, such as academic performance, extracurricular involvement, or personal background, that candidates must meet to be eligible.

All candidates can apply for these scholarships by completing the relevant section in their AUBG application form. Prior to applying, each candidate needs to read the requirements for each scholarship, in order to find out which one they’ll be eligible for.

Types of Donor Funded Scholarships

  1. Merit-Based Scholarships (without required financial documents): These scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, extracurricular involvement, or other talents and accomplishments. Candidates must have a strong academic record and may be required to demonstrate leadership or community service.
  2. Need-Based Scholarships (with required financial documents): These scholarships are primarily awarded based on financial need. Candidates must prove that they require financial support to attend AUBG.

Merit-Based Donor Scholarships without required financial documents

  • In honor of an outstanding Bulgarian/American, two scholarships of 2,300 EUR each for the first year of study will be awarded to Bulgarian first year students based upon academic merit, character, leadership skills, and service to others.

  • Two 2,300 EUR scholarships for the first year of study are available for entering AUBG students. The first of these two scholarships is designated for an entering student of Bulgarian origin, residing in Macedonia or in Western Outlands. The second named scholarship will be awarded to an entering student of Bulgarian origin, residing in US.

  • Four 2,300 EUR scholarships for the first year of study are available for new AUBG students of good academic standing with a significant achievement outside of academics (i.e. music or sports semi-professional involvement).

  • One 2,500 EUR scholarship for high school students from any country of the world, who have demonstrated courage by supporting either democratic values, human rights, free speech, an ethical and sustainable society or in any other way have helped ameliorate a social injustice. These students will have been judged as behaving courageously in word or deed in advancing social activism that strengthens civil society. The selection process will include an essay competition. The essay should be on the topic of moral courage and the historical example of Bulgarian Tzar Boris III during World War II.

Need-Based Donor Scholarships with required financial documents

  • Four scholarships of EUR 2,500 each are available for the first year of study for new AUBG students. Awards will be based on both academic merit and financial need. There are no nationality restrictions, though preference will be given to incoming Bulgarian students.

  • Up to ten 40% scholarships per year for four years are available for Bulgarian students with high academic merit. The students must also be eligible based on financial need as evaluated at the time of admission. The student must intend to study Economics or Business at AUBG and work in Bulgaria for at least 5 years after graduation.

  • Two 3,500 EUR scholarships are available to international students with a high school GPA of 3.0 or above (on a 4.0 scale) with financial need. Georgi Sava Rakovski Scholarships will be awarded to qualified full-time students.

  • Four 2,500 EUR scholarships for the first year of study are available to prospective students from the post-communist regions of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. The scholarships will be awarded based on academic achievement and demonstration of need.

  • Two 4,800 EUR scholarships annually for the four- year course of study are available for students from Romania, Ukraine, Georgia or Turkey, showing financial need and demonstrating academic excellence.

  • One scholarship of 2,500 EUR for the first year of study is available to incoming students from Albania, who have successfully covered AUBG admissions criteria. Students should have a CGPA of minimum 3.00 out of 4.00 and preference should be given to applicants from low-income families and background.

  • Six 2,500 EUR scholarships for the first year of study are available to first year students who have demonstrated financial need, and are students of considerable promise in terms of academic accomplishments, leadership abilities, and personal character.

  • Up to 15 scholarships of 2,000 EUR each for the first year of study are available to incoming students of Albanian descent from Albania, Kosovo, and Macedonia, based on financial need. Scholarships are for the first year of study.

  • Four scholarships of 2,000 EUR each for the first year of study are available to students from Kyrgyzstan (Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan or a country from Central Asia) with financial need.

  • One 14,400 EUR scholarship is available for students from Bulgaria in financial need and merit score above 100 points in TOEFL or its equivalent. The amount will be applied to the recipient’s tuition expenses for their freshman and sophomore year, 7,200 EUR per year. The recipient is obliged to maintain CGPA of 3.00 or above.
