For 27 years, Panitza Library has been a proud member of the American Library Association (ALA) and its division, the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL). This long-standing affiliation reflects our commitment to upholding international standards in academic librarianship, fostering professional development, and staying connected to global best practices in higher education and research support. Through ALA and ACRL, we continuously engage with innovative trends, resources, and a vibrant professional community that enriches our services and strengthens our role within the academic landscape.

The Centre for Advanced Study, Sofia (CAS) is an independent non-profit institution with strong international and multidisciplinary profile set up for the promotion of freedom of research, scholarly excellence and academic cooperation in the Humanities and Social Sciences. The partnership with CAS promotes academic exchange and research support for AUBG faculty and CAS researchers.

The American International Consortium of Academic Libraries’ mission is to advance learning, teaching and research through the collaborative development of library and information services and curricular resources at member institutions. As a founding member of the consortium, AUBG and Panitza Library actively engage in strengthening academic libraries across a network of 29 international liberal arts institutions. AMICAL’s current programs are shaped around the following strategic focus areas:
• Cost‐saving on information resources and services
• Library and technology leadership
• Capacity building in information and digital literacies
• Locally grounded forms of digital liberal arts pedagogy and scholarship
• Professional development opportunities for faculty and librarians AMICAL provides a platform for innovation, dialogue, and leadership in library and technology fields, supported in part by past grants from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

EconBiz is a research platform developed by the ZBW – Leibniz Information Centre for Economics that provides the academic community with focused access to scholarly literature in economics and business. EconBiz supports students, faculty, and researchers with a powerful search across key German and international databases, offering access to both free and licensed full texts. In addition to literature search, EconBiz features resources for developing research skills, including tutorials and guidance for early career scholars, as well as information on academic events such as conferences and summer schools. As Bulgaria’s only member of the EconBiz Partner Network, Panitza Library participates in an international network of over 30 academic institutions, and promotes AUBG’s institutional research visibility through platforms like EconStor and RePEc.

Panitza Library collaborates with the Bulgarian Library and Information Association (BLIA) to support the development of modern, inclusive, and globally connected library services in Bulgaria. BLIA plays a key role in shaping national library and information policy, aligning Bulgarian libraries with European and international standards, and fostering cooperation across institutions. Its priorities include updating library regulations, supporting professional development, launching national and international projects, and advocating for the visibility and impact of the library profession. Through this partnership, Panitza Library contributes to initiatives that strengthen the role of Bulgarian libraries in education, research, and public life.

Panitza Library is one of the three founding institutions of the NALIS Foundation (National Academic Library and Information System), which was established in 2009 to advance library and information systems across Bulgaria’s academic and research communities. NALIS works to unify library catalogs among universities, research institutes, and major repositories, improving access to scientific and scholarly resources. Its mission includes developing modern, accessible, and collaborative library infrastructure through national catalog integration, enhanced automation systems, international cooperation, and advocacy for open access. By supporting these initiatives, Panitza Library actively contributes to the modernization of Bulgaria’s library landscape and the promotion of shared knowledge and innovation.

As a founding member of the Bulgarian Information Consortium (BIC), Panitza Library supports the Consortium’s mission to provide affordable, high-quality access to global information resources for Bulgarian academic, research, and library institutions. BIC works to promote the use of scholarly content across Bulgaria, negotiates preferential pricing for its members, and fosters collaboration and knowledge-sharing among institutions. Through training, advocacy, and partnerships with international publishers and organizations, BIC helps modernize library services and improve information access. Panitza Library actively contributes to these shared efforts, supporting the development of a robust, connected, and informed academic community.

Panitza Library supports AUBG’s active engagement in the Open Society University Network, a global partnership launched in 2020 to expand access to high-quality, inclusive education. OSUN connects students and faculty from around the world, fostering global learning, academic freedom, and collaboration on pressing issues like climate change, inequality, and human rights. As part of OSUN’s Library Resources Working Group, Panitza Library contributes to efforts that ensure equitable access to course materials, promote open educational resources, and support information literacy across the network. Our partnership helps bridge resource gaps and strengthens shared knowledge across institutions.
