Civilizations at the Crossroads: The Bulgarian Case

This course covers major events in Bulgarian history (e.g., the medieval Bulgarian states, Bulgarian society during the Revival Period, capitalism and nationalism in Bulgaria, socialism). Lesser-known topics such as “Minorities in Bulgaria” also receive specific attention. This course has a chronological framework beginning with 681 and the Medieval Age, modern times (Bulgarian Revival Period and the Third Bulgarian Kingdom) and recent Bulgarian history (from 1944 to 1990).
