Equal Opportunity and Accessibility Support Program (Junior) Coordinator

The American University in Bulgaria is seeking a dedicated, organized, and student-centered Equal Opportunity and Accessibility Support Program (Junior) Coordinator to join the Student Affairs Department. The Responsibilities

  • Policy Development, Implementation, and Compliance

    Support the development, review, and implementation of University policies to ensure compliance with U.S., EU, and Bulgarian accessibility and non-discrimination laws (including ADA and Title IX), collaborating with leadership and campus offices to maintain alignment with institutional standards and best practices.

  • Accessibility Accommodation Coordination and Individualized Student Support

    Coordinate individualized support plans and accessibility accommodations for students with disabilities or temporary health conditions.

  • Sexual Discrimination and Harassment Prevention and Education (incl. Title IX)

    Implement and support University efforts to prevent and address sexual discrimination, harassment, and misconduct (including Title IX), through compliance monitoring, training, awareness initiatives, and collaboration with leadership to ensure effective prevention, reporting, and response procedures.

  • Educational Initiatives to Promote Equal Opportunity, Access and Participation

    Organize and support initiatives, workshops, and collaborative projects that promote accessibility and equal opportunity, foster mutual respect and community belonging, and strengthen intercultural communication across campus.

  • Resource Coordination and Student Support

    Coordinate and connect students with appropriate resources on and off campus, support understanding of University procedures, and gather feedback to enhance accessibility, equal opportunity, and overall student support services.

  • Data Management, Assessment, and Reporting

    Maintain confidential records and data on accessibility and support services, monitor the effectiveness of initiatives, and prepare reports and analyses to inform leadership decisions, ensure compliance, and support continuous institutional improvement.

 

Requirements and Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, social sciences, law, public administration, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Native or near-native English proficiency (minimum C1 level); working knowledge of Bulgarian or another language preferred.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated intercultural competence and ability to work effectively with individuals from various educational and cultural backgrounds.
  • Integrity, discretion, empathy, and a genuine commitment to supporting students.
  • Ability to interpret and apply institutional policies and manage confidential information.
  • Some experience in student support, counseling, education, or administrative coordination.
  • Familiarity or prior experience with the liberal arts system of education is preferred.
