Prof. Jeffrey Nilsen Co-Authors Policy Brief on Bulgaria’s OECD Accession

Prof. Jeffrey Nilsen, part of the Economics Department at AUBG, has recently co-authored a policy brief on Bulgaria’s application to join the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The brief was completed under the auspices of the Bulgarian Council for Economic Analyses, an independent advisory body established by the Bulgarian Council of Ministers to provide data-driven, academic expertise to inform key government policies.

Prof. Nilsen collaborated on the brief with fellow economists Professors Nenov, Yotov, and Stefanova. Their work offers strategic insights into Bulgaria’s economic readiness for OECD membership, contributing to the national conversation on long-term policy development.

This latest publication builds on Prof. Nilsen’s ongoing role in the Council of Economic Analysis. His expertise in capital flows was previously featured in a Council report analyzing the potential effects of Bulgaria’s accession to the euro area. That policy brief focused on four core economic channels—inflation, trade integration, capital flows, and interest rates—to assess the country’s preparedness. Prof. Nilsen’s analysis of capital movements offered critical insights into how euro adoption could impact Bulgaria’s economy.
