Abstract:

This article explores the role of a corpus-based approach and pedagogical differentiation in teaching and learning specialized French terminology and collocations in an exolingual context. It aims to address the need for greater professionalisation of learners in the Languages for Specific Purposes (LANSAD) sector, where instruction often prioritizes transversal skills due to students’ diverse disciplinary backgrounds. In a previous study, the author developed a pedagogical scenario for teaching French for international relations centred on learning terminology and collocations through discussion of current topics. Building on this, the article presents an action-research project aimed at testing this scenario in a blended learning environment involving learners from various disciplines. The findings suggest that integrating corpora into collaborative tasks enhances the acquisition of specialized terminology and facilitates communication between experts and non-experts. However, improvements are needed to strengthen students’ ability to use such tools. While this approach increases teacher workload, shifting some responsibility to students could lead to a more balanced and effective learning environment.
