The Bloomsbury group was a collective of English intellectuals, writers, and artists that met in the early 20th century in London to discuss aesthetics and philosophy. Among them were notably Virginia Woolf, John Maynard Keynes, E. M. Forster, Vanessa Bell, and Lytton Strachey.
Of the abundance of photographs left behind by members of the group, Maggie Humm brings together a curated selection, with a focus on domestic intimacy. Candidly picturing the group alongside their children, servants, pets, inside and outside of the home, the photographs illuminate their complex relationships and personal lives. The Bloomsbury Photographs are not simply documents, but testimonies of relationships, friendships, and the significance of empathetic lives.
