Dr. Richard Van Horne

Dr. Richard Van Horne is a private investor currently based in Laramie, Wyoming, USA.

Before he moved from New York to Wyoming in 2009, Van Horne enjoyed a nearly thirty-year career in international banking and asset management.  Van Horne co-founded an asset management firm in New York in 1992 which specialized in emerging market investing.  In 2001, Van Horne became active in manager selection and multi-manager portfolio construction, managing client funds in the multi-manager space through 2008.  Prior to switching to asset management in 1992, Van Horne worked for about ten years in international banking with Merrill Lynch, JP Morgan, and Crocker National Bank.

Van Horne currently serves as an Assistant Professor at the Poznan University of Economics and Business in Poznan, Poland.  Also, since 2015, Van Horne has served as adjunct visiting faculty at the Wroclaw University of Economics in Wroclaw, Poland.  From 2011 to 2012, Van Horne was at the University of Wyoming as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Economics and Finance.  His areas of focus include investments, portfolio management, and risk management.

Van Horne is a graduate of Princeton University (AB 1978), the Graduate School of Business at Stanford University (MBA 1981), the University of Wyoming (MS Finance 2010), and the Wroclaw University of Economics (PhD Finance 2018).  Van Horne is a CFA charterholder (1989) and a CAIA charterholder (2005).

Over the years, he has been active in his local public schools as a volunteer tutor and PTA officer, and in a variety of community service positions.  Van Horne has also volunteered with his local CFA chapters and the CAIA Association, as well as with Princeton-in-Asia, Inc., a non-profit organization affiliated with Princeton University, as Finance Committee Chair, Trustee, and Emeritus Trustee.
