Skaptopara I, II, and III are the first purpose-built residence halls in Bulgaria. They provide a smoke-free environment, housing 800 students in single, double rooms and suites. However, they provide much more than that: a place in a supportive and stimulating community, space to learn and grow, and remarkable wellness and activity programs all help new students settle in quickly and easily.
Activity areas include aerobic rooms, two weight rooms, music practice rooms, a multipurpose room, billiard and ping pong areas, several television lounges, outside decks, and cafes. Skaptopara I and II have a laundry facility in the basement for student use that contains washing and drying machines, so there’s no excuse for bringing dirty laundry home!
Each student is expected to read the current Student Handbook and abide by those rules of community behavior.
Returning students choose rooms and roommates in the previous semester. New and visiting students are assigned to each hall upon arrival for orientation, or through preassignment if they have residence hall or roommate preferences.
Wellness Programs and Floor Activities
Life in halls isn’t just about study, clubs and relaxation. Here at AUBG, all our residents take part in innovative and fun Wellness Programs every single semester. Covering six developmental areas,* Wellness Programs can include activities as varied as movie screenings and debates led by professors, dance projects, sports and more. Residence Life and Housing puts on various events throughout the year, including Halloween festivities, speakers, entertainers and the intriguing Romance & Responsibility week. And last but not least, the Resident Assistants host a party for each floor during the semester. These floor parties always have a theme (yes, you get to dress up!) offering fun, companionship and refreshments.
*social interaction, emotional development, physical wellness, spiritual exploration, vocational development, and intellectual exploration.
Off campus living
As part of the University Mission as a residential campus, all students are expected to live in University housing for four years. Housing contracts are binding for an entire academic year. Currently students from Blagoevgrad will not be assigned to campus housing as there is a shortage of available places.
Students who get permission to live off campus should notify the Registrar’s office and Residence Life office of their current local address, and are responsible for complying with all police registrations.
Family housing is currently not available on campus. Married students who can show documentation are not required to live on campus unless required by their scholarship. AUBG is committed to equal opportunities and can make arrangement for students with special needs to be accommodated either on or off campus.
