Student Support Fund Report
In the spring of 2020, the American University in Bulgaria established the Student Support Fund to help students facing financial hardship caused by the COVID-19 pandemic continue their education at AUBG without disruption. The fund offered eligible students aid of up to $1,500 for the 2020-2021 academic year. A second round of support was provided to students in the greatest need in the form of the Student Emergency Fund.
We received enthusiastic support from alumni, faculty, staff and the university board of trustees. The America for Bulgaria Foundation generously matched alumni donations as part of its 2020 support for the university.
Joining our efforts towards this worthy cause once again proved the bond and strength of our community to overcome crises together. We once again reminded ourselves how agile and resilient our community had always been and would continue to be, to ensure the sustainability of our one-of-a-kind institution. Thank you all for your unceasing dedication!
The first round of support provided one-time aid of $1,200 to students of all academic standings so they can continue their AUBG education. Later in the summer, those in greatest financial need received additional support from the Student Emergency Fund.
About half of the money for the fund came from contributions by alumni, staff and faculty. Additional contributions came from the ABF unrestricted grant and AUBG's funds from other revenues.
A total of 194 donors contributed to the fund, including, alumni, faculty, staff, board members and the entire AUBG leadership team.

Today, thanks to your generous support, I am one step closer to realizing my dream and receiving the right education to become a great software engineer. I promise you I will work hard so that someday I can give something back to others.
