Refund Policies for Spring 2021

1. If you decide to return to campus for the Spring ‘21 semester:

  • you may return to the residence halls no later than March 1, 2021; no returns will be allowed beyond this date; please contact the Director of Residence Life at least 24 hours in advance of your planned date of return;
  • your housing fee and student activity fee for the Spring ‘21 semester will be pro-rated, based on the time you check in at the residence halls as confirmed by the Director of Residence Life (subject to a minimum activity fee of $60 and a minimum housing fee of $150 to cover the non-refundable room deposit paid for Spring ‘21);
  • you will be required to check out from the residence halls no later than the Sunday of the week of the Final Exams, or the day after Commencement (if you’re a graduating senior);
  • any excess amounts paid will be rolled over to your student account for the following semester (students in their last semester at AUBG will receive a refund); the meal plan money in your student account that haven’t been used by the end of the academic year will be written-off, in accordance with the AUBG Undergraduate Catalog.

2. If you decide to stay on campus for the duration of the Spring’21 semester:

  • your housing fee and student activity fee will be pro-rated based on the number of days you stay in the residence halls, and any excess fees will be rolled over to the following semester (students in their last semester at AUBG will receive a refund);
  • you will be required to check out from the residence halls no later than the Sunday of the week of the Final Exams, or the day after Commencement (if you’re a graduating senior);
  • the meal plan money in your student account that haven’t been used by the end of the academic year will be written-off, in accordance with the AUBG Undergraduate Catalog.

3. If you decide to leave campus before the end of the Spring ‘21 semester:

  • your housing fee and student activity fee for the Spring ‘21 semester will be pro-rated, based on your check-in and check-out dates as confirmed by the Director of Residence Life (subject to a minimum student activity fee of $60 and a minimum housing fee of $150 to cover the non-refundable room deposit paid for Spring ‘21);
  • any excess amounts paid will be rolled over to your student account for the following semester (students in their last semester at AUBG will receive a refund);
  • any unused meal plan funds (except for the meal plan bonus) will also be rolled over to the following semester;
  • your access to the AUBG buildings and facilities will be revoked for the duration of the semester in accordance with the University policies for AY 20/21.

Please note that the no refunds/rollover of funds will be provided if you leave campus after March 31, 2021.

4. If you currently live off campus and would like to retain access to AUBG buildings and facilities for the remaining part of the Spring ’21 semester:

  • your student activity fees will not change;
  • the meal plan money in your student account that haven’t been used by the end of the academic year will be written-off, in accordance with the AUBG Undergraduate Catalog.

5. If you currently live off campus and would like to revoke your access to the AUBG buildings and facilities for the remaining part of the Spring’21 semester:

  • your student activity fee will be pro-rated based on when your access to AUBG buildings and facilities is revoked as confirmed by the Security Office (subject to a minimum activity fee of $60) and the excess amount paid will be rolled over to the following semester;
  • any unused meal plan funds will be rolled over to the following semester.
  • off-campus students should notify the Registrars Office not later than March 1, 2021 if they would like their access to the campus to be revoked. No requests will be accepted after March 1, 2021.

Updated student bills will be posted on the portal no later than April 16, 2021.

All refunds will be provided in the two-week period after Commencement. Please contact Student Billing after the end of the Spring ’21 semester to provide your bank account details.

Refund Policy as of November 2020

Students are required to inform AUBG by November 20 whether they will attend Spring 2021 online or on-campus (a hybrid form of instruction). Based on the selected option, the students’ bills for Spring 2021 will be updated and posted on AUBG student portal by December 10.

Students must pay their tuition and the other required fees for the Spring 2021 semester in full no later than January 10, 2021. The required fees are the housing fee, the student activity fee, the meal plan deposit, and outstanding balances.

Online-only Spring 2021 semester or Early Closing of Campus

If AUBG instructs students to leave the campus before the end of the Spring 2021 semester, AUBG refunds the housing fee and the student activity fee at the following rates:

  • Before the start of the semester – 100% 
  • During add/drop week – 90% 
  • During the 2nd week of the semester – 80%
  • During the 3rd week of the semester – 70% 
  • During the 4th week of the semester – 60% 
  • During the 5th week of the semester – 50% During the 6th week of the semester – 40% 
  • During the 7th week of the semester – 30% 
  • During the 8th week of the semester – 20% 
  • During the 9th week of the semester – 10% 
  • After the 9th week of the semester – no refund

AUBG offsets the refund against future fees payable to the university. For graduating seniors and visiting students, the refund will be credited to the student account.

AUBG rolls over any unused meal plan deposits to the next semester. For graduating seniors and visiting students, the unused meal plan deposit will be credited to the student account.

Students Who Switch to Online Instructions during the Semester

Students who decide to switch to online instructions during the semester will not be offered a refund of their housing fee and student activity fee, except in the case this is due to medical reasons (see below).

Students who switch to online classes during the semester due to a change in their health status are entitled to a partial refund of the housing fee and the student activity fee at the above rates. AUBG rolls unused meal deposits (net of the meal plan bonus) over to the next semester. The Health Center grants permission for students to attend classes online and notifies Residence Life and Student Billing.

Students Who Arrive on Campus after the Start of the Semester

AUBG offers international students a partial refund of their housing fee and student activity fee when visa issues or border restrictions delay their return to campus. International Student Services notifies Student Billing of the delay. Residence Life and Housing notifies Student Billing of the date students return to campus and their housing fee. The refund depends on when the student returns to campus:

  • No refund is provided if the student arrives within six weeks from the start of the semester.
  • 40% refund of the semester’s housing fee and student activity fee is provided if the student arrives after the 6th week of the semester but not later than the end of the 10th week of the semester.
  • 65% refund of the semester’s housing fee and student activity fee is provided if the student arrives after the 10th week of the semester.
  • 85% refund of the semester’s housing fee and student activity fee is provided if the student is unable to return to campus. The unused meal plan deposit (excluding meal bonus) will be rolled over to the next semester.
