October 12, 2017

The first ever AUBG & Friends Fundraising Golf Tournament gathered supporters of the institution for a friendly game on Sept. 29 near Bansko. The collected funds will go towards the university's scholarship fund to support talented students in need of financial aid.

Faculty, staff, alumni, and representatives of the public and private sectors took part in the tournament at the Pirin Golf & Country Club.

"I'd like to congratulate not only the winner of today's tournament , but also all of those who believed in the mission of our university," said AUBG President Dr. Steven Sullivan. "Thanks to you AUBG's young talents will keep on prospering and changing the world."

The game was played in the popular Stableford format with participants split into two divisions. Players played with three-quarters of their playing handicap, which was set at a maximum of 28.

"I am the proud father of an AUBG student and I am from Blagoevgrad, and it makes me happy that our beautiful little town has such a university," said Vladimir Mihaylov, who won the third place in  Division II.

"I would love for this initiative to continue and for us to return here next year and support the future of education in Bulgaria," said Angel Vasilev, the top player in Division II.

The day ended with a cocktail and award ceremony, where the top three players in each division received their individual trophies.
