Christmas Spirit in Blagoevgrad

December 21, 2014

The magnificent Christmas tree rising proudly at city center, the sparkling
lights, and the joyous holiday jingles can only mean that Christmas is around the corner in Blagoevgrad, and to make the atmosphere even more festive, the municipality has organized a series of Christmas events and activities for both young and old.

The youngest can exercise their creativity in Santa’s Workshop on the ground floor of the townhall. The souvenirs, decorations, and holiday cards they make will be on display at the Christmas Bazaar and the proceeds from the bazaar will benefit various local charities. Santa Claus will also visit the neighbourhoods of Blagoevgrad to make sure he did not miss any well-behaved kids. The children will welcome Santa with a Christmas carnaval and with riddles and poems they have learned by heart.

For the art lovers, there will be a series of Christmast concerts, plays, and exhibitions. There will be puppet shows—“Christmas Detectives” and “The Ice Kingdom”—in the Home of Youth and “Hour of the Fabulous Storyteller” in the townhall. There will be concerts, “12 Christmas Carols” and “Starry Christmas,” and a dramatization of favorite Christmas stories in the Regional Library. And there will be an art exhibition, "Christmas Dreams," in the Arts Center; a play, "Christmas Tree," in the Nikola Vaptsarov Theater; and a lot more.

Those desiring less art and more fellowship can settle in at one of the famous Christmas pubs built at the center of Blagoevgrad. Their cozy atmosphere, good wine, and tasty barbeque guarantee spirited time with friends and family.

The Christmas festivities will finish on December 31 when Blagoevgrad welcomes the New Year with a spectacular celebration.
