AUBG Recognizes Outstanding StudentsApril 15, 2008
The 15th Annual Honors Convocation brought together students, faculty and administration on Sunday, April 13, 2008. At the Ceremony AUBG recognized the seniors with outstanding accomplishments in all academic programs as well as in the fields of music, theater, sports, peer counseling, residence assistance, and student advising. Students who won scholarships and essay competition awards also received recognition. Senior Serik Sharipov from Kazakhstan received the most precious prize - the Presidential Medal. Provost Ann Ferren said: "During his four years at AUBG, Serik has had a wide range of interests and activities, performing with the choir, serving in Student Government as Representative to the Board of Trustees, receiving several awards for writing, becoming a member of Phi Beta Delta, and working as a member of the Diversity Team and of the Better Community Club. Serik has shown that he has a broader grasp of the world than most and a clear appreciation for the arts. Because he shows such strong leadership potential, understanding of community service, and respect for the meaning of the Liberal Arts, we found him clearly be the best candidate for this year's medal."
