AUBG Employee Spotlight: Gergana Dodova, Admissions Counselor and Recruitment Coordinator
What is your role at AUBG?
I am an admissions counselor and recruitment coordinator at the Admissions Office. My role is to advise and consult prospective students on their questions about AUBG and the AUBG community
Tell us a little about your background?
Well, I have graduated with a BA degree in International Relations and Masters in Arts in European Integration. I have also participated in different projects connected to Erasmus + and different youth projects, which is the “job” that gave me the most fulfillment, prior to AUBG. After that I started working in a real estate agency for 2 years until I had the opportunity the join the AUBG family.
What is the most important project you have worked on recently?
My most important project that I have worked on recently is the Open House event that we had on the campus. It was so exciting to see so many young people motivated to get better opportunities and to see how much they actually want to be part of the AUBG community.
What do you like most about AUBG?
I like the feeling of being part of a community that is really positive and welcoming and [I like] becoming a member of the AUBG family. It feels like you are somewhere else, not in the middle of Blagoevgrad and you are surrounded by so many cultures and views of life, [and] people who are always willing to help each other. What I like the most is the feeling of freedom and that you can not help yourself but become a positive and happier version of the person you were before you joined the AUBG.
How does a normal day look like at your workplace?
A day at the office is a day full of meeting bright people always wearing smiles and giving positive vibes. It can be answering phone calls or emails to bouncing ideas from each other for an upcoming event. The word that I can use for it is “inspiring” and not only by your co-workers, but also by the students when you see how dedicated they are to getting and using all the opportunities that they have at the AUBG
What is most rewarding about your job; what makes it all worthwhile?
The most rewarding feeling for me is to know that you have helped someone. And it can be helping them realize what AUBG offers to its students or helping them in the process of becoming a student. In general it is the idea that you have helped someone achieve their dreams and that with coming to the AUBG you have changed or helped to change their life direction in a positive way.
What hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?
I like the quiet times when I can read a book or watch a movie at home and at the same time I like going to different countries, cities and interesting places with friends. Sharing laughs over a glass of wine and be silly or cuddling my dog until she gets annoyed and wants to get away from me.
What's something about you few people know?
I would like to keep that information for those few people
Where is the best place you’ve traveled to and why?
I think that there is not a best place for me, because every time I travel somewhere there is something beautiful at that place. For example last summer I traveled to different towns in the Rhodope Mountains and the place was so beautiful in itself with the mountain views and all the green places, but also what made it a great experience were the people in those small villages that were so kind and welcoming and willing to share their story, offer you traditional food, which they had made with products from their gardens that they have taken care of. Everything was so simple and even our phones sometimes were not working, but that gave us the opportunity to actually enjoy the calm and quiet times and see everything on this trip not through the lenses of our phones while taking pictures.
If you could choose another profession, what would it be?
I don’t know exactly the profession, but I would like to think that I would choose something that is helping other people and inspiring them.
