AUBG Celebrates Excellence in Education by Encouraging Scholarship Support

December 07, 2017

It took an hour for the American University in Bulgaria and friends to gather a total of 3,200 BGN for the establishment of an endowed scholarship for an entrepreneurial undergraduate student. The act happened as part of the Excellence in Education event that gathered prominent guests, executive master students, alumni and employees to celebrate academic merit.

The all-day happening took place on December 2 at Elieff Center, the university's Sofia headquarters, and featured a master class in innovation and design with Adam Billing. Billing, who is an associate of Møller PSF Group and also the founder and director of Treehouse Innovation, a leading consultancy based in London, shared powerful insight in front of select audience.

Afterwards, a friendly and festive reception and a live art auction took place to benefit the cause. The auction, led by AUBG alumnus Hristo Chernev (’99), entrepreneur and CEO of TaxiMe, sold 24 paintings from contemporary Bulgarian artists. Students from the AUBG EMBA and the joint venture with SDA Bocconi Executive Master in Finance, Banking and Real Estate program, alumni and friends eagerly supported the scholarship.

AUBG, the leading education provider in the region, supports empowerment through education via numerous initiatives. Among them is also the English for Journalism program sponsored by the U.S. Embassy in Bulgaria. According to Mathew Hagengruber, Cultural Affairs Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Bulgaria, all should feel a need to support education, because it ultimately benefits everybody. “Education is a never-ending process; it’s a lifelong process and even if you are not a student yourself, there are ways to be involved and support the educational system in any place.”

“We are very glad to see all the spots get filled,” Hagengruber commented on the interest towards the program. “AUBG has been a very good partner for the Embassy for a very long time,” he added.
