Media Emergencies and Crisis Situations

Procedure for handling media emergencies and crisis situations:

When the University faces a situation where the news media and public want information about a major emergency, crisis, or crime that involves AUBG, its students, faculty, and staff, the Communications and Marketing team must be involved in working with the news media.

Should an event occur that may have a significant negative impact on the reputation of the University (such as a student demonstration, financial scandal, assault, or any emergency situation), only the President, Provost or Director of Communications and Marketing are authorized to comment.

If a University office such as the Security Office or Health Center, for example, is involved, it will take responsibility for informing the Director of Communications and Marketing of the situation. A determination as to what type of information announcement is necessary will be made between the Office of Communications and Marketing and the office(s) involved.
