Mask Policy

Policy on the Wearing of Masks in the ABF, BAC, and MB

1. Everyone in the public areas of the ABF, BAC, and MB must wear a mask covering their mouth and nose at all times. People may pull down their masks briefly to consume drinks or food.
2. Everyone using the classrooms or meeting spaces in the ABF, BAC, and MB must wear a mask when holding an event outside of regular classes unless Dr. Daskalov has given event request approval to hold the event without masks.
3. People eating in the ABF restaurant and café may take off their masks while consuming food or drink at a table.
4. Students must wear a mask in Aspire.
5. People using the ABF Fitness Center do not have to wear a mask. The Fitness Center staff must be masked. The ABF Fitness Center is limited to a maximum of 30% capacity.
6. People using the ABF Sports Hall for sports events do not have to wear masks while playing. Spectators are limited to 30% capacity (i.e., a max of 130 people) with two seats between each person. All spectators must wear a mask. Spectators may pull down their masks briefly to consume drinks or food.
7. People using the ABF Sports Hall for non-sports events must wear masks. Participants may pull down their masks briefly to consume food or drink. The maximum capacity is 130 people, whether they are sitting or standing. People who are sitting must have two seats between them.
8. People playing table tennis in the ABF table tennis room do not have to wear a mask. Spectators must wear a mask. A maximum of three people can watch a table tennis game. 

Students 

1. Anyone witnessing a violation of this policy by an AUBG student should inform the student that they will be reported and complete an online incidence report (BG/ENG) or report the violation to Asya Tsvetkova in the Dean of Faculty’s Office. Guards are obliged to report violations of this policy. The report must state the student’s name, the date and time of the violation, and a description of what you witnessed.
2. The first violation will be fined $25. The second violation will be fined $100. Any subsequent violation may lead to a Conduct Council case and a ban from campus without a refund.
3. Open-air gatherings of more than five people on campus are prohibited. The first violation will be sanctioned with a fine of $150. The second violation may result in an immediate ban from campus.
4. Approved events may take place as planned, but all attendees must wear masks indoors unless Dr. Daskalov has given event request approval to hold the event without masks. If social distancing outdoors cannot be provided, attendees of outdoor events must wear masks too. Masks may be pulled down briefly at events to consume food or drinks. Violation of these rules will be sanctioned with a ban of further on-ground events on campus by the event’s organizers. 

Faculty 

1. Anyone witnessing a violation of this policy by an AUBG faculty member should report the violation to Robert White. The report must state the faculty member’s name, the date and time of the violation, and a description of what you witnessed.
2. President Evans issued an order on 26 October 2020 that requires all university staff (including faculty members) to cover their nose and mouth in the public areas of the AUBG buildings, including the MB, BAC, and ABF. Faculty who violate this order will be subject to disciplinary action.
3. Approved events may take place as planned, but all attendees must wear masks indoors unless Dr. Daskalov has given event request approval to hold the event without masks. If social distancing outdoors cannot be provided, attendees of outdoor events must wear masks too. Masks may be pulled down briefly at events to consume food or drinks. Violation of these rules will be sanctioned with a ban of further on-ground events on campus by the event’s organizers.

Staff 

1. Anyone witnessing a violation of this policy by an AUBG staff member should report the violation to Karina Ulucheva. The report must state the staff member’s name, the date and time of the violation, and a description of what you witnessed.
2. President Evans issued an order on 26 October 2020 that requires all university staff to cover their nose and mouth in the public areas of the AUBG buildings, including the MB, BAC, and ABF. Staff who violate this order will be subject to disciplinary action.
3. Approved events may take place as planned, but all attendees must wear masks indoors unless Dr. Daskalov has given event request approval to hold the event without masks. If social distancing outdoors cannot be provided, attendees of outdoor events must wear masks too. Masks may be pulled down briefly at events to consume food or drinks. Other 

1. Anyone witnessing a violation of this policy by a non-AUBG person should report the violation to a security guard immediately.
2. These violations will be referred to the appropriate authority, where they may be subject to fines of BGN 300 to 1,000, and in the case of a repeated violation from BGN 1,000 to 2,000 pursuant to Art. 209a of the Health Act.
3. The Bookstore, the Café, the Restaurant, Skappy’s, and the Panitza Library must refuse to serve clients not wearing a mask.
4. Security guards and RAs must ask students, faculty, and staff to put on a mask covering their mouth and nose when entering a building.
