Assistant/Associate Professor in Computer Science
The American University in Bulgaria (AUBG) invites applications for a
full-time position of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science. The position is for a three-year renewable contract, available from the Fall semester.
The successful candidate is expected to have an excellent research record, as well as substantial and outstanding experience in teaching a wide variety of Computer Science and Information Systems courses in an institution following the liberal arts model of education.
The successful candidate must have a proven track record in teaching a variety of fundamental courses, especially covering the areas of computer architecture, assembly language, system administration, security, UNIX operating systems. A proven publication record by the candidate in advanced research topics in these fields will be considered as an important plus.
The teaching load is 6 sections per year. A strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching in the liberal art style is required. Substantial teaching experience is desired. An earned doctorate in Computer Science is essential.
Relevant industrial experience will be considered a significant plus.

Professor in Management (two positions)
The Department of Business at the American University in Bulgaria (AUBG) is searching for two faculty members in Management. These are regular full-time positions, starting in the fall 2022 semester.
The level of appointment is open and based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
- Teaching a load of six courses per academic year in management;
- Producing research;
- Advising students; and,
- Working with the department, the university, and the wider community in service activities.
The successful candidate will be a management generalist and will be teaching both required and elective courses within the department as the need arises and/or depending on the candidate’s background. There are two required courses that need to be covered, either Management in a Global Environment (a foundation course) or Organizational Theory and Behavior. Other electives may include Human Resources Management, Leadership, Negotiations, Entrepreneurship, Conflict and Change Management, Management Communication, and other areas of management emphasis.
The successful candidate will possess the following:
- An earned Ph.D. degree in Management or a closely related field from an ac- credited institution;
- Experience in teaching similar undergraduate-level courses;
- Record of publications and/or scholarly research;
- Experience in an American liberal arts-style education or willingness to adapt to the American liberal arts style of teaching; and,
- A collegial disposition.

Assistant/Associate Professor of Composition and Writing
The American University in Bulgaria invites applications for a professor of Composition and Writing. The candidate will be employed within the Department of Literature and Theatre (LAT) but will also be expected to contribute to writing courses in the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC). Preference will be given to candidates with a strong background in teaching both composition and writing for media at an undergraduate level.
Candidates will be expected to teach the freshman composition sequence in LAT and Writing for Media (JMC). The ability to teach screenwriting and/or creative non-fiction will be an advantage. The candidate will further have the possibility of developing advanced writing courses within their area of expertise. As full-time faculty, instructors are expected to teach a minimum of three courses per semester, to participate in university and departmental service, and to publish within their fields. Candidates should be prepared to demonstrate the ways in which their teaching and scholarship will contribute to the ongoing mission of AUBG as a liberal arts institution furthering the advancement of democratic ideals in Eastern Europe.

Adjunct Assistant Professor (or Higher) in Psychology
The American University in Bulgaria (AUBG)
invites applications for an open-rank adjunct position in Psychology in the Department of Philosophy and Psychology. The position is for fall 2022 with the possibility of renewal for more semesters.
The successful candidate is expected to have teaching experience in Psychology and be able to teach the courses PSY101 Introduction to Psychology and PSY102 Introduction to Social Psychology. Here are the additional details of this position:Areas of specialization: open.
- A PhD in Psychology is strongly preferred, although advanced ABDs will also be considered;
- Ability to teach PSY101 Introduction to Psychology and PSY102 Introduction to Social Psychology;
- Previous experience with, or willingness to learn how to use, the Canvas learning platform and Zoom video conferencing;
- A strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching at a liberal arts institution.
The successful candidate shall teach two sections – namely, one section of PSY 101 Introduction to Psychology and one section of PSY 102 Introduction to Social Psychology – per semester, on ground on the AUBG campus, which is located in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria. The successful candidate shall be provided with office space and shall have office hours on ground and/or online every week during the semester.
A semester at AUBG typically consists of 14 weeks, besides the final exams week. Two class sessions per course are held every week. Each class session consists of 75-80 minutes. Students’ performance is assessed based on several assignments (e.g., in-class exams, quizzes, projects, presentations, etc.) given during the semester. The current faculty members in the discipline are willing to provide the successful candidate with assistance concerning course materials. Online teaching is possible for successful candidates based outside of Bulgaria.
