Information For Faculty

Faculty at the American University in Bulgaria play essential role in the success of the annual Commencement Ceremony. Thus all are invited to participate in this momentous occasion.

The information provided below is a general guideline for faculty participants. Specific instructions will be mailed to all faculty in advance of the ceremony date.

Ceremony Location
The AUBG Commencement Ceremony will take place at the city square, adjacent to the Blagoevgrad Municipality building.

In the event of light rain, the ceremony remains outdoors, and guests and participants are advised to be prepared for such weather.

Should there be severe weather, the ceremony will take place at the Peyo Yavorov Hall, located next to the AUBG main entrance.

If there is any uncertainty as to the ceremony location because of unstable weather, announcements regarding the place of the ceremony will be available on the Peyo Yavorov Hall and AUBG front doors, and via email.

Faculty Regalia

In accordance with the AUBG Faculty Regalia Policy, all AUBG faculty members are invited to participate in the Academic Procession during commencement appropriately attired in academic regalia.

The style of the academic regalia — gown, hood, cap, and tassel, dates back to the 13th century. From these you can ascertain a great deal of information about the wearer. Every participant should be wearing regalia which will inform the observers of their highest academic degree, the general discipline in which they studied, and the university which awarded the degree. That is why all facultyparticipants in the academic procession are encouraged to bring their own academic attire and thus contribute to the festivity of the event.

Those faculty members who do not have their own set of regalia for the May Commencement, may choose a company of your preference to purchase or rent regalia, which would fully correspond to your exact reading of degree and university from which you graduated.

The other option for those faculty who do not have and need regalia for the May Commencement would be to rent or purchase regalia from the AUBG Regalia Stock. If you would prefer this option, there is an AUBG Regalia Order Form available in the University Events Office. You should fill in the order form, submit it to the Business Office and make the payment by the specified there date.

* If you decide to rent regalia, please note, that you cannot rent an AUBG soft tam and/or cap—they are available only for purchase since they cannot be dry cleaned after use.

** If you decide to purchase AUBG regalia, please note that the vendor would need at least 8 weeks to complete the order.

Reserved Seating for Faculty Guests

Each faculty member can invite one guest to the Commencement Ceremony on Sunday and/or the President's Reception on Saturday. To receive a guest ticket, stop by the Conferences and Events Office (ABF 6303) to get one. All guests should have their tickets with them during the entire event. This will help the student assistants find guests’ seats efficiently.

In the event of rain on Sunday, faculty guests can watch a live broadcast of the ceremony in the Main Building Auditorium.
