The Goethe Dictionary (Goethe-Wörterbuch) is an author defining dictionary and one of the largest projects in the area of historical semantics and lexicography. The dictionary is a joint undertaking by the Academies of Sciences of Berlin-Brandenburg, Heidelberg, and Göttingen. Based on around 3.2 million text-quotations and 93,000 headwords, it records and interprets the entire vocabulary transmitted in the works of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
