Circulation/Reserve Librarian

Panitza Library at the American University in Bulgaria is seeking a dynamic and highly motivated individual to join our team as a Circulation/Reserve Librarian. As the Circulation/Reserve Librarian, you will play a pivotal role in supporting the daily operations of our academic library. This position involves managing the circulation desk, overseeing reserve materials, and ensuring seamless access to physical and electronic resources. You will collaborate with faculty, students, and staff to meet their information needs while fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment.

THE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Circulation Desk Management:

  • Oversee the circulation desk operations, including check-in, check-out, and renewal of library materials.
  • Assist library patrons in locating and accessing resources, answering inquiries, and resolving any circulation-related issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of library transactions and ensure proper handling of fines and fees.

Reserve Materials:

  • Coordinate the reserve materials service, working closely with faculty to process and manage course reserve requests, adhering to copyright guidelines and fair use policies.
  • Organize and update course reserves, ensuring timely availability and proper circulation of materials.

User Services:

  • Provide exemplary customer service, assisting library users in navigating the library’s resources and services.
  • Offer information support and promote effective search strategies to help users access relevant information.
  • Assist patrons with using library technologies, such as computers, scanners, OPACs, and other multimedia equipment.

Collection Maintenance:

  • Monitor and assess the condition of library materials, processing repairs or replacements as needed; participates in inventory.
  • Participate in collection development activities by proposing new resources.

Collaboration and Outreach:

  • Collaborate with library colleagues to enhance library services, programming, and initiatives.
  • Engage in outreach activities to promote library services, events, and resources to the academic community.

REQUIREMENTS AND DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Professional degree in library science preferred; higher education required
  • Customer-focused with a commitment to providing exceptional service.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to handle effectively large volumes of face-to-face communication daily, self-motivation, initiative
  • Experience in an academic library or similar educational setting is preferred
  • Basic knowledge of library-related trends and technologies. Advanced computers skills
  • Excellent oral and written English communication skills
