Milica won the Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Award, which is a highly competitive contest since many applicants from various universities participate in it. She heard of Goldman Sachs Global Leaders Program from other AUBG students and alumni, who have previously applied for and got the prestigious award. The first event of Goldman Sachs Global Leader Program this year is the awarding ceremony in London, from May 8 till May 10. Milica represents AUBG along with other 32 global leaders from the eligible European universities. The idea of the event is to gather the future global leaders from different parts of the world, ceremonies will take place in five venues on different days, and choose 75 of them to attend the Global Leadership Institute conference in New York.
Milica, who is an active student at AUBG, shares her opinion on the awarding process: “Most of the AUBG students, who applied for this award, have a long term experience in managing projects and organizing various events. But, in my opinion, except for this kind of experience, what got me in there is the fact that I have worked on projects and events that involve people with different disabilities, a group that is considered disadvantaged in most societies.” Always eager to broaden her knowledge, she expects to acquire useful skills related to project management. Milica believes that leadership is about unlocking potential, whether individual potential or that of a group, company, or organization. It is not about telling people what to do, but inspiring them to see what they are capable of and then helping them achieve their goals.
Leaders should possess a variety of qualities that push the potential of others: looking in perspective, taking responsibilities of their own actions and above all not making excuses. Milica proves the above statement every day. She plans to attend a summer school organized by Macedonian NGOs and further develop her talent in organizing events and managing regional projects. Working towards her bachelor’s degree, she learned how to contribute to her community and realized that leaders must be trustworthy before others will follow them.
In the meantime, Milica devotes efforts to GRE preparation, although she has three semesters before her graduation. She likes spending time with her family: “My parents and friends are happy about my stay in Macedonia since I will spend most of the summer at my hometown with them.” She already has a clear sense of where she wants to go and how she intends to get there.
